Our animals on the farm

What would a mountain farm be without animals!

They "moo" and "mow" around the house. The cockerel crows next door and the sheep bleat at feeding time. Every now and then a horse neighs in the neighbourhood.

Even though farm animals are a lot of work, they make up for it just by being with us.

The goats are funny companions and always make us laugh. It's almost impossible to be in a bad mood! They are indescribable.

We experience calf births during the day or at night. We suffer with the cows when the birth is difficult and are happy when mother and child are healthy. We accompany both homeopathically and psychologically.

Cows and goats in particular are very sensitive.

We then give the calves names, nurture them with love, feed and stroke them and ensure their physical and mental well-being as best we can.

We keep our calves busy with brushes, teats, hay bags etc. and let them run around outside. The cows are taken out to pasture every day, through the Klamm district, and some of them even go to the mountain pasture in summer.

If an animal falls ill, we look after it, give it extra attention and cuddles for the soul and get up at night if necessary. We suffer when we have to say goodbye to a beloved animal for health reasons. It's like a family - they have names, live with us and are very close to us...

They are a lot of work, but we are grateful that we have them and that they feed us.

Goats

Our goats Kamilla, Bärbel and Vroni are "genuine" chamois-coloured mountain goats - an original native mountain breed that is particularly hardy and robust in the mountains.

The three ladies are very outgoing, friendly and "people-loving".

Three offspring are due in February 2024. We are very excited to see how many "new arrivals" we will have then.

From May onwards, the healthy and tasty organic goat's milk and, of course, the products made from it will be available again.

Every now and then we take interested guests on goat walks across our larch meadows and flowering pastures.

A tasting of the delicious goat's milk products is of course a must.

Dairy cows and calves

The girls who provide us with the wonderful organic milk are "Original Tiroler Braunvieh".

Like the goats, they belong to a breed that is dying out and is being bred back to its origins. Their robustness and sure-footedness are perfect for the alpine summer. They can also master stony and rough terrain on high alpine pastures to reach lush flowers, grasses and herbs.

Our cows keep their horns and we refrain from cutting off these important organs. The cow's horn is not only an ornament, but also fulfils important tasks in digestion, improves milk quality and, of course, serves as a means of communication with other cows.

In spring, summer and autumn, the cows that are giving milk or are about to give birth stay at home. The rest of the herd spends the summer on the beautiful Gaistalalm.

Working dogs & mousers

As befits a farm, we have dogs and cats.

Lena is our official working dog, but she is often not to be seen where there is work to be done.

Paul is a 13-year-old golden retriever who not only lives with us, but has also taken up residence with the neighbour.

Our spoilt fairy would rather lie behind the tiled stove in the house than pursue her vocation as a cat catcher.

Jolly Hansel is out and about a lot and occasionally accompanies us on walks. Nothing escapes his curiosity.

They are not as hard-working as we are, but we love them as they are! :-)
